During the Galaxy S25 launch last month, Samsung surprised everyone by teasing the Galaxy S25 Edge. It is the company’s long-rumored slim flagship, aka the Galaxy S25 Slim. However, while earlier leaks hinted at a triple-camera setup on the back, the device showcased last month had only two rear cameras. So, does Samsung have two separate models in development, or is there another explanation? We may finally have an answer.
Samsung made a last-minute change of plans for its slim Galaxy flagship
Until Samsung officially revealed the name, its upcoming slim flagship was called the Galaxy S25 Slim. Leaks about it have been coming in for months, with the first set of renders surfacing in mid-January to reveal its design. The phone was shown with three cameras on the back and said to be just 6.4mm thick. Earlier rumors said Samsung will equip it with a 200MP primary camera alongside an ultrawide lens and a telephoto zoom camera.
The Galaxy S25 Slim/Edge was shaping up to be a dream phone for many, but that excitement faded the moment Samsung unveiled its design. The device featured only two rear cameras — and to make matters worse, the rumored 3.5x zoom camera was scrapped. This could either mean all earlier leaks got it completely wrong or Samsung made a last-minute change of plans. OnLeaks, the source of those leaked renders, suggests it’s the latter.
According to them, Samsung decided to only offer two cameras to make the phone slimmer. The original prototype was 6.4mm thick, but the design finalized by the company cuts it to just 5.84mm. This also means a smaller battery of 3,900mAh and a huge camera bump. It looks like “slimness” is the main USP for the Galaxy S25 Edge, as it lacks some flagship features. Samsung hopes this gamble will pay off, but only time will tell.
