5 Key Differences Between the Galaxy S25 Edge vs Galaxy S25 Ultra

by | May 11, 2025 | Comparison, Galaxy S

In a few hours, Samsung will pull the curtains back on the Galaxy S25 Edge through a virtual Unpacked event. You can tune into the event to catch everything live. The stakes seem high for the Galaxy S25 Edge, which has only been teased by the company on several occasions. At this point, you might be wondering what are the differences between Galaxy S25 Edge and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

For starters, the Galaxy S25 Ultra was unveiled in January, whereas the Galaxy S25 Edge will be introduced on May 12. Both are part of the same lineup, but they may appeal to different users. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is a powerhouse. The Galaxy S25 Edge, on the other hand, is shaping up to be the slimmest phone Samsung has ever made. What makes the Edge interesting is its focus on design and portability.

What are some key differences between Galaxy S25 Edge and Galaxy S25 Ultra?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the Ultra, whereas the Galaxy S25 Edge introduces a new product line. It has nothing to do with Samsung’s previous Edge-branded phones. When choosing between the two, it’s worth taking note of what you actually want in a phone. Thanks to ongoing rumors, we already have a good idea of what the Galaxy S25 Edge will offer even before its official release, which helps highlight some key differences. We’ll update this article if Samsung announces any changes during the official keynote.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge MWC 2025 1

1. Thickness

The main selling point of the Galaxy S25 Edge is its incredibly slim design. It is the thinnest phone Samsung has ever produced, even slimmer than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 8.2mm in thickness, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to come in at just 5.84mm. If thinness is something you value, the Galaxy S25 Edge is the one to consider.

2. S Pen

Samsung made a few changes to the S Pen stylus with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It no longer includes Bluetooth functionality, which was available with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to Samsung, the decision was based on the fact that not many users were taking advantage of that feature. Even so, the S Pen remains a valuable tool for power users and creatives. As with previous generations, the Ultra is the only model in the lineup that supports the S Pen. That hasn’t changed this time either. The Galaxy S25 Edge does not include S Pen support.

3. Cameras

The cameras cater to all sorts of audiences, whether you’re into photography or not. That’s again where the Galaxy S25 Ultra knocks off the Galaxy S25 Edge. Despite the Galaxy S25 Edge’s super slim profile, it still gets a 200MP lens paired with a 12MP lens. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Ultra onboards a quad-camera setup: 200MP + 50MP + 10MP + 50MP. The Galaxy S25 Edge may also miss out on a telephoto lens, which is present on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

4. Weight

The Galaxy S25 Ultra packs a punch, even with the inclusion of an S Pen, which adds to its weight. In total, it weighs about 218 grams. The Galaxy S25 Edge, on the other hand, is much lighter, weighing around 163 grams, according to reports. For comparison, that’s even lighter than the compact Galaxy S25.

5. Screen

The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to feature a 6.7-inch screen, which is impressive for a device that weighs about 163 grams. However, the Galaxy S25 Ultra offers a larger 6.9-inch display. Screen size is largely subjective; some people prefer a more compact device, while others are willing to sacrifice size for a bigger display. There’s one more area where the Galaxy S25 Ultra holds an advantage: the Galaxy S25 Edge may miss out on the anti-reflective coating.

The differences between Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Edge are somewhat clear, but who really wins?

Galaxy S25 Ultra vs S25 Edge

No one. We’d say the Galaxy S25 Edge offers just enough of the specs you truly need. The cameras come with just two lenses, which might feel like a downgrade for some. It was never meant to compete directly with the Ultra, which is why it doesn’t try to.

Instead, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a more aesthetic appeal, offering a lightweight, super-sleek design. If you’re looking for a compact device with the right balance of power and an incredibly sexy form factor, the Galaxy S25 Edge is your choice. However, if you want more features and a larger screen, you can always opt for the Galaxy S25 Ultra (review).
